from following his stuff a bit, he occasionally self-identified as a 'pragmatic marxist' and had this half-baked idea that the world's centre-left parties are the political heirs of kautsky and bernstein

Another error.

Plenty of clinics do not bulk bill (provide free visits to) concession card holders, for a start.

Those who are very sick but don't have concession cards aren't getting free GP visits either. There's no mechanism where being very sick entitles you to free GP visits.

Candidate for worst article of the year.

A journalist (Ex-AFR, no surprise) arguing that the Medicare changes are bad because they involve 'A wealth transfer from the well to the sick'.

That's literally the point of any modern healthcare system.

This is embarrassing enough on its own – being an adult advocating for banning social media because you can't log off – but it's even crazier when the author is a noted defender of gambling

incredibly funny that jonathan haidt is responsible for australia's idiotic social media ban, quite literally our 9/11

"Instead of having a private duopoly competing to make as much profit as they can, we could bring Australia’s biggest bottle-os into public hands. We could put a limit on the role of the profit motive in the alcohol industry"

My new supervisors are, of course, not specialists in the area of research that I'm focusing on in my PhD thesis (Thankfully my previous supervisors found positions elsewhere)

Now they're messing with our offices (name tag removed, door left unlocked), which again we were not informed about

I've written something on why I, a casual academic and PhD candidate, don't support calls for university casuals to receive the same super contribution rate as permanent staff
