i'll be blunt, if you are someone who is vocal about the ways that diversity efforts "divide the working class" but silent about the ways that *actual racism and discrimination* divide the working class, then i think you're just an opportunist

How likely is it that there are enough GOPs privately appalled by what they’re seeing to work with the Dems and actually do something about it, but they need there to be some real pain before they have the political cover to act, and that’s why the Dems, for now, are phoning in their opposition?

Very important point. If this MAGA congress cedes all its power to Trump, federalism may be the ultimate backstop to full-on authoritarianism.
i think also the primacy of national politics in political discourse has maybe led people to forget that governance is very decentralized and the federal government does not control the states and has limited enforcement power over them

i think it is important to say that the open and explicit racism of the president and the vice president isn’t just uncouth or “controversial” but a direct attack on tens of millions of americans and a dereliction of their duty to represent the entire country
