Turned in the badge today.

My colleagues and I will stay on the beat, but in a new way. The work continues.

I'm not signing, and neither are my colleagues.

But the work continues.

I can now share that Washington Post journalists will not be signing the new media policy at the Pentagon.

I can also share that Secretary Hegseth already is aware of that:

Urgent new statement from the Pentagon Press Association, on Pete Hegseth’s new, forthcoming media restrictions:

This move, cast here as a response to some sort of uprising, actually includes about 200 Oregon National Guard members, according to a memo that Pete Hegseth sent state officials.

Guard likely will be limited to protecting federal personnel, property. Legality of even that will be contested.
October 1, 2025 at 6:11 PM
In new memo, Pete Hegseth says 200 members of the Oregon National Guard will be "called into Federal service effective immediately for a period of 60 days."

Follows Trump's call for a military response in Portland.

Has similar feel to deployment to L.A. that began in June.

Trump weighs in this morning about an award ceremony at West Point for Tom Hanks getting canceled.

Here's the Washington Post scoop on that Saturday:

This from Trump does not track with what officials have forecast as a possibility: Military maybe in a limited role, supporting ICE ops (which *also* remains legally contested).

Some will laugh. Others will grit their teeth as a highly politicized issue becomes even more so.
September 7, 2025 at 4:57 PM
There looks to be a coordinated reaction to The Washington Post's reporting today that falsely accuses the paper of publishing specific security vulnerabilities.

Reaction like this comes after a string of undisputed WaPo scoops that have detailed dysfunction on Secretary Hegseth's team.

D.C.'s falling violent crime stats, as seen in a new @washingtonpost.com graphic.

There's no denying the city had a spike in violent crime in 2023, as President Trump was campaigning for president.

There's also no denying that it already has receded.

Interviewed Coast Guard rescue swimmer Scott Ruskan about his work at Camp Mystic. He was quick to share the names of the others on his crew: Ian Hopper, Blair Ogujiofor and Seth Reeves.

He also said the teenage camp counselors acted heroically.

This is Lance Cpl. Marcelino M. Gamino, 28, and Lance Cpl. Albert A. Aguilera, 22. They are the Marines killed in a vehicle crash near the southern U.S. border in New Mexico this week.

A third Marine is in critical condition.

RIP.

President Trump last night issued a memo to have the military to take a more active role in immigration enforcement along the border, particularly in an area known as Roosevelt Reservation.

Details about this plan first appeared in a Washington Post scoop I wrote last month.

In new statement, Pentagon defends its decision to pull down content highlight the service of Jackie Robinson, the Iwo Jima flag-raising Marines, the Navajo Code Talkers, etc., citing the "DEI" framing.

Statement also seems to attempt a doozy of a new definition for DEI:
