Serving poor people is often very different from volunteering. So much volunteering is paternalistic and maintains the unjust social order.

Serving, rather, reverses the social order and brings a form of justice, where those who are treated as inferior servants become the most important.

In this time of crisis and uncertainty for undocumented folks, one of the best things we who are privileged to be here legally can do is find ways to connect with our undocumented neighbors.
