Here's who each team will play once in County Championship Division 1 next year

The number to the left of each team is their position last year

The number on the far right is the positions of the teams you play against once added together

I don't buy this at all from the ECB (see here: www.ecb.co.uk/news/4408232)

Perhaps the proportion of matches that are rivalries has increased but that's only because the overall number of fixtures has been reduced!

...nights most counties favour for selling tickets

Eg Friday 3 July is weirdly under-utilised, with only 5 games rather than the maximum of 9

Derbyshire host Somerset on the following Wednesday, but I can't see a reason why it couldn't have been this evening instead

Here are all the crossover fixtures in the 2026 men's Blast

I assume this wasn't entirely random because Somerset playing Hampshire - a repeat of last season's final - seems a little too convenient (it's being played on the opening day, too)

It's fixtures month! Not sure if we'll get a split release again but we can probably expect them around the week commencing 24th November.

Loan signings by men's counties this year (can't guarantee I've picked up every signing but most will be included in these numbers)

We've seen a small decrease in loan signings in recent years

There were 27 in 2023, 24 in 2024 and 23 in 2025

Overseas players fielded by men's counties this year (can't guarantee I've picked up every single signing but the vast vast majority will be included in these numbers)

92 in total which is 8 more than 2024 but 1 fewer than 2023

Hampshire had 9 which may be an all-time record

Including next season, here are all Division 1 stints of 8 seasons or more

(This all ignores 2020 and 2021 which didn't have normal divisions)

Leicestershire become the 15th county to win County Championship Division 2

Only Glamorgan, Gloucestershire and Yorkshire haven't won it

(I'm not including 2021 Division 2 here which wasn't a "proper" Division 2 imo)

Worcestershire were yesterday relegated for the 7th time

Lancashire have the next most relegations, with 5

Worcestershire's yo-yoing has been remarkable - the table below shows their Division in each year of the 2-division format

They've changed division 14 times!

Yes, I do have a list of every full substitute Somerset have ever used

Looks like Josh Thomas is making his first-class debut as a concussion sub for Tom Abell

Haven't seen anything official but Thomas has appeared in the playing XI (XII) on BBC Sport

Do keep an eye on the last round of women's One-Day Cup matches today if you can

Lots to play for with Surrey and Durham effectively playing off for the last semi-final spot (although Somerset could sneak ahead of both of them)

And Hants, Blaze and Lancs going for a home semi
September 13, 2025 at 6:29 AM
Somerset play their last women's Metro Bank One-Day Cup group stage match tomorrow

They can still sneak into the semi-finals

Permutations:

If Somerset lose, tie or no result, they are out

If Surrey beat Durham, Somerset are out

The main information you need ahead of finals day...previous winners of the mascot race!
September 12, 2025 at 7:55 PM
Is it better to play in the first or second semi at finals day?

Well, of the 22 Blast finals so far, 14 were won by the side that won the second semi-final (63%)

Also, the last 6 were won by the winner of the second semi-final

In their men's 2nd XI Championship match, Somerset and Yorkshire tried to set up a game with Somerset declaring their first innings on 19/0 and Yorkshire forfeiting their second innings, but Somerset's chase was quickly cut off by rain leading to a quite glorious match summary

The no result in the Surrey v Essex game today means Somerset are still just about in with a chance of progress in the women's ODC with one game left

We'll need to beat Warks on Saturday, ideally with a bonus point, then it would depend on the result of the Durham v Surrey game and NRR

It's a big day of women's Metro Bank One-Day Cup action, with the top 6, who are all in qualification contention, playing each other
