You love to see it. I have a theory that every country sees foreign right wingers as scarier and more extreme than their own. The Democrats attacked Trump over his links to Nigel Farage, whereas in Britain, Farage was criticised for his links to Trump. Maybe Germans feel the same way about Vance?

Having worked in political campaigns for years, changing career was quite a revelation. I found myself almost missing a local election because I had forgotten it was on that day and had only received a couple of leaflets about it weeks before - that's how most people experience politics.

Hard to contemplate a defensive union with a country that could tip towards the Ukraine-skeptic far right at any time. We might need to consider some sort of Anglo-Scandi-Baltic alliance.
