I also think Siege were planning to run their own warboot events, or "sponsor" the other ones, with organisers having to give a percentage of fees to Siege for use of the logo and trademark. That feels more accurate tbh.

I suspect because they thought it would be an easy way to make money, as organisers would pay them to use the term. The head of Siege seems to have a record using shitty practises in the past.

Siege filed a trademark for the word "warboot" in June, kept quiet and then sent out a bunch of cease and desist letters to other warboot organisers claiming ownership, and expecting to be payoff to use the term. Everyone told Siege to get fucked and they issued an "apology" that was anything but.
