It's amazing how much my mom and aunts rationalised until the "youths" called him out and had to explain to our moms that all the things he did to them were ABUSIVE AF. Public humiliation, pitting them against each other to be the thinnest/prettiest, controlling all aspects of their lives, beatings.

He's never been a pleasant man to be around, but I didn't know until after that incident just how AWFUL he'd been to his three daughters (and continued to be). My cousins and I insisted on cutting contact, and my mom and one aunt agreed. Sadly, my youngest aunt is stuck under his influence.

My mom and her sisters kept their experiences of being raised by their dad to themselves until I was 30 (and my youngest cousin 20) to allow us to grow up with a grandfather. A few years ago, my cousin and I had an argument with him over his misogyny and racism. He threw a tantrum.
