We have the exact same problem here. About 40% of the fields around us grow rapeseed and the pest pressure for growing anything from rocket to broccoli, to radishes, to even horseradish is a pain. Basically impossible without netting. It sucks

Same, flee beetles and especially cabbage weevils go hard after all of my brassicas :( i now have to even "double net" sometimes. So yeah i will also be looking for a denser netting for the next season.

For what it is worth I usually sow my Peking cabbage around first week of July and plant out seedlings around beginning of August (august 9th this year) and the results with variety Hilton have been really good.

Oh something that just occurred to me but definitely not something that ive tried or know how it interacts with nightshade allergies but maybe a pure capsaicin extract could work intead for the heat as well!

I see.. well if the issue is not general pepper allergy maybe going mostly sweet peppers with like a tablespoon of grated horseradish per head of cabbage can work( but im just spitbaling here)

If you ever find a korean recipe that fits what you are looking for, i would love to try it as well!

I've never tried making kimchi without chillies, no. I know there is a type of kimchi called baek or white kimchi that doesnt use chilli flakes maybe check those ones out!

Very good albeit small. Definitely should have removed them this year to give the tree energy to establish more but i couldn't resist

Yeah sown early last year so it is about 1.5 years old. Yeah im not even expecting particularly tasty fruit from it (settings expectations low haha) I just love to growing stuff from seed. I have a three year old peach tree grown from seed that produced fruit for the first time this year!
