#StandUpForScience rally from Friday in Lansing

Good attendance, good energy

It was great to be around other defiant, pro-science people!

This website makes it very easy to find your reps. It even gives you a script you can use when making calls:

5calls.org/issue/omb-fe...

It’s a fantastic tool. They cover a wide variety of issues, too.

Let your reps hear from you!

Interested in developing a Great Lakes research proposal with me or another CIGLR PI? Check out the opportunities below

ciglr.seas.umich.edu/accepting-pr...

Each project needs to be submitted by a CIGLR regional consortium partner, but the original idea can come from anywhere 🌊

Spotted today at NOAA PMEL: a saildrone that I was told has circled Antarctica 🇦🇶 🌊

It was great fun visiting the lab, giving a talk about the Great Lakes, and spending time with some fellow marine scientists 🙂

Thanks to Sage Osborne for hosting!

I randomly flipped open a journal at U. Washington today, only to be greeted by this absolute classic of physical oceanography 🌊

Anyone know if Mike is on BlueSky?

Glad to be back in Seattle this week - I’m visiting U. Washington today and tomorrow and NOAA PMEL on Thursday

Hoping to convince some fellow oceanographers that although the Great Lakes are not oceans, they are indeed cool and interesting 🌊

If you’re around and want to say hello, let me know!

What’s even plainer than a “plain language summary”?

A plain language summary run through XKCD’s “simple writer”! ✍️

Atmospheric moisture becomes “sky water”, and forecasting becomes “future computer thinking” 😁

Just some abstract ocean-lake fun

The ACC could drain the Great Lakes in about 35 hours! 😮🌊

Inspired by the “how many Rs in strawberry” situation, I asked ChatGPT to play Wheel of Fortune, and it did…not do well

Interesting how it can code reasonably well but it can’t play a spelling guessing game 🤔

Are you working at the intersection of machine learning and marine science? If so, consider submitting an abstract to our session (OS025).

We’ve been running this session since 2021, and we’re thrilled to be convening it again. We hope to see you in DC!

It is #ShowYourStripes day! Here’s one for Detroit

Visit showyourstripes.info to download simple, stark graphics that highlight how your climate has warmed over the past century or so.

Share them to start conversations about climate change.

It's time for action.

It was lovely to finally meet @katharinehayhoe.com in person a few weeks ago before her Wege Lecture in Ann Arbor!

Friday night - saw the northern lights from just south of Ann Arbor. Beautiful! I loved the enormous scale of them - huge pillars of color!

The online portal for Climate Informatics 2024 is really cute, and it seems to work well too

I’m enjoying some talks about machine learning in hydrology 🌊
