Mas uma das leituras que se pode fazer de Kpop Demon Hunters é extremamente cristã: um trio de mulheres dedicadas tenta erradicar a ameaça demoníaca por meio não só da espada, como da inspiração de outros. Falsos ídolos atraindo legiões. Pecados passados sendo redimidos por sacrifício e penitência.

Aposto que tiraram “Demon” do nome traduzido pra não afastar o público. Mas mesmo assim, pululam nas redes vídeos de influenciadores religiosos denunciando as imagens e temas do desenho. Como se a gente já não fosse exposto a imagens de demônios, inclusive nos nossos desenvolvimentos espirituais.

Alguém precisa fazer uma reportagem (ou uma dissertação) sobre como o sucesso absoluto e mundial de Kpop Demon Hunters não vai atingir todo seu potencial no Brasil por motivos religiosos.

Visibility improves when outlets invest in digital positioning. Updated websites, active social accounts, and even Wikipedia pages all boost how often local news shows up on Google. But all of that costs money, time, effort, know-how, and human capacity. (3/6)

- Planned a conference trip;
- Reviewed some doctoral applications;
- Given an interview;
- Scheduled a talk;
- Cleared my inbox;
- Drafted an op-ed;
- Am doing a peer review.
I like being productive, but 2025 has to chill out a bit.

Ainda estou assombrado por The Seed of the Sacred Fig, que vi ontem. É sobre o autoritarismo, a repressão, e a intolerância se embrenhando no país, nas famílias, nos indivíduos. E pergunta: Qual é o papel de um "cidadão de bem" em uma sociedade injusta? E o que estamos fazendo com nossas filhas?

Por mais que nós brasileiros também estejamos penando nessa guerra digital global, muitos acadêmicos americanos têm comentado comigo nos últimos meses sobre como o Brasil é um bom exemplo: prendeu invasores do Congresso, puniu políticos anti-democracia, tentamos regularizar o que pode.
A democracia, obviamente, não é só o resultado das urnas.
É o resultado de um voto popular livre de ameaça de violência física ou econômica, de mecanismos para favorecer o voto de uns e desfavorecer o de outros, de campanhas de desinformação.
Democracia precisa do voto de um povo de fato livre.

I got this terrapin print during my master's commencement here at UMD, in 2016. All these years, it was wrapped in plastic and stored in closets in three different apartments.
Now it's framed and hanging in my new office, in that building I first walked into eight years ago.
