… but I found the above to be a useful way to think about a part of the individual scale, in a way that points both to really bright spots of happiness for the individual looking for them, and to broadening connections as well.)

You in no way expect to set or keep that person’s whole life or that organization’s whole mission on the right track, and they in no way expect that either, the interaction is just a good thing that happened.

But if you can usefully connect with a person or organization you aren’t already very closely engaged with, and make a contribution of some time, effort, or otherwise, then that nice thing goes off fully and unqualifiedly in your brain as a nice thing.

In that context, helpful actions, as necessary as they are, might not give access to an emotional high of ‘that went wonderfully!’ in this time because we feel like there’s an overwhelming amount still left to be done.

We tend to see ourselves as potentially broadly responsible for how our own life and the lives of our closest loved ones develop.

Yes! Many times yes!
