Got to see some early concept art for PJOTV season three monsters and beasties yesterday. Really not fair to tease this since it is still so far away, but Holy Hera it looks good! I'll just be over here squealing internally for the next couple of years until I can share it with you. Carry on.

On my plate this week:
Look over marketing and merchandising ideas for PJOTV season two.
Read / note a script for season three.
Edit a manuscript that I can't talk about yet.
Continue writing a manuscript (the third new Percy novel)
Have meetings on two other projects I can't talk about yet.
Nap.

Last week's turkey god got me thinking about other bird-related deities. Here's Nanshe, the Sumerian goddess of justice, dreams and marshlands, whose sacred bird was most probably the goose, as seen in the art! The Canada geese in Boston will be happy to hear they have proper god rep.

Spanish discovery of the day: Me voy a ir yendo. Literally something like "I am going to go going." Actually makes perfect sense to me. The equivalent in Texas would be, "I'm fixin' to get going." As in gotta brush my teeth first, get dressed, maybe watch this TV show, but I'll get there eventually.

I am used to seeing wild turkeys in Boston. I am not used to seeing one roosting right outside my front door. He looked at me through the window, totally unconcerned, and went back to pruning himself. He is quite large. What are the gods trying to tell me...

Turkey update: He is still there. I have gone in and out the door several times, said hi to him in passing, and he is completely chill about the whole thing. My son has started using him as a weather gauge: "Judging from the turkey's feathers it must be windy out there!"

A great Italian expression today: fare un buco nell'acqua, literally "to make a hole in the water." It means a wasted effort, a flop, useless work. Spero di non fare un buco nell'acqua oggi, and I hope you can avoid that too. Happy Friday!

My weekend assignment: Signing tip-in sheets, which will then go to Mark Oshiro, then bound into the books as they are printed. This edition is for indie bookstores, as you can see on the pages. No details when/how to order yet. At least my hand is better enough to sign! (my usual scrawl, anyway)

Not only is it Eid al-Fitr (Eid Mubarak to all celebrating!), in Ancient Rome, March 31 was the sacred day of Luna, the personification of the moon, whose temple was founded on this date on the Aventine Hill.

Happy April! The word comes from the Latin Aprilis, possibly related to aperire (to open), aprire in Italian, abrir in Spanish -- as in the blossoms are starting to open! Here's hoping for a beautiful spring up here in the Northern hemisphere!

Spanish idiom of the day: de la manga, from the sleeve. If I understood my professor correctly (we do classes only in Spanish), it is similar to the English "tricks up your sleeve," indicating something done quickly, on the fly & perhaps not very convincingly, like the trick of an amateur magician.

Well, the turkey has moved along. Guess it just needed a quiet place to roost for a bit. In his honor, here's today's deep-cut deity, Chalchihuihtotolin, Nahuatl for "jeweled turkey." As I understand it, in human form he brings disease, but his nagual, animal form, can bring cleansing. I'll take it!

A busy week ahead! Team PJOTV continues to edit episodes of s2 while outlining scripts for s3. They're working from an outline I provided, breaking Titan's Curse into episodic structure. I'm giving notes at each stage. Also working on the 3rd new Percy novel + 3 other things I can't talk about yet!

Happy Tubilustrium! March 23 was sacred to Mars in Ancient Rome. It marked the beginning of the army's campaign season, when the legions' war trumpets (tubae) were cleaned and sounded in a city-wide ceremony. Can't go to war with grungy tubae!

Italian idiom of the day: colpo della strega, literally 'the witch's hit.' It just means back pain. Why? I'm guessing because it gives you a stereotypical witch's posture. Next time you've got back pain, blame the strega!

Leaving Vancouver, heading back to Boston, I look out my window and see a bald eagle flying over the harbor, being harassed by the local seagulls, like, "Get out of here, ya punk!" Not a metaphor at all. Nope.

This week's deep-cut deity: Cardea, Roman goddess of door hinges and handles. Beloved of Janus, god of doorways, she was charged with protecting sleeping children from evil spirits who might sneak in at night. Don't make offerings to Cardea? Well, then, you're probably unhinged.

Great Italian idiom for you: specchietto per le allodole. "A mirror for skylarks." Literally, people would hunt larks w/a mirror to attract them into nets. Figuratively, it means using flashy promises/actions to fool gullible people from focusing on real issues. Good thing that's not a problem now!
