I was lucky that my parents spent time with us. And we always knew they loved us. My mother would come home from work and listen to me tell her about my day. And this lasted well in high school.

I was lucky with good parents. I wish everyone had the same.

I liked my childhood. My parents gave me independence to go out and explore. Once or twice I hurt myself. But they would always come and fix. Typically informed by other children. But once I was alone far from home and a stranger family drove me. Split my hand open needing stiches.

And no, my parents didn't know where I was always. GenX, pre-cell phone.

They would literally kick us out of the house and tell us to play outside. Hide and seek would cover the entire street including all the neighbours front gardens.

So thinking back to my youth, the number of kids being driven to school now is just insane.

My elementary schools never had drop off zones.
Now this was in Scarborough (massive suburbia of Toronto) and the residential blocks were huge.

And schools were well placed in the middle.

To be fair it was a short walk down the street and then into the school yard. But that is one of the reasons you picked your pre/post school care choices close to the school.

I think this lasted for us until Grade 5? When we just walked from home which was a 5 min. walk without major streets.

Which just seems crazy to me. My parents were boomers.

From Senior Kindergartan on we (my twin sister and I) were dropped off at a private daycare by Mom on her way to work.

From Grade 1 on we walked to school alone in a pack with other Grade 1s in the daycare.

I hate to say this…… but he is young and I am uncertain if he has ever seen Monty Python. And he lives 4 hours from me so I have failed in my uncle duties to properly introduce it to him.

My luck he will respond with “67” and to be honest I have no clue if that is a proper snarky response.

Now since Ken is Popehat…. Should we try to gather evidence of miracles so he can canonized as the Saint of Snark.

If I show my nephew a picture of the hat icon and ask his opinion and he gives a snarky response is that the power of the Hat or a well trained nephew.

Hmmm….. :)

Glad Ken is doing fine. I got nothing nice to say about the people being blocked so I am going to leave it be.

On snarky kids, I do appreciate his snarky kids story when they pop up. He has done well in training them in the way of snark / sarcasm.

Sorry for the incredibly long posting thread. As you can probably tell, I have a lot of feels.

But any expectation that the USA will be forgiven and especially "quickly"....

How can any country base it prosperity on trade deals with the USA?

The USA is Canada's largest trading partner still. But our government is absolutely diversifying as much as we can. This has been revealed as a critical flaw in our economy since the USA cannot be trusted.

And all of this is ignoring the hardest hurdle the USA will have. Either there is too much power in the president or the checks/balances are broken.

So what is to stop this from happening again?

None of this should be acceptable in a law and order based world. The USA is behaving like "Might make right". It is "wonderful" to see USA take inspiration from what Putin did to Ukraine. (see Greenland)

So what is the point making a "deal" with the USA if it will just be thrown away.

Yes, the trade deal has a sunset clause. So discussions are intended to occur.... but when there are specific carveouts that Canada signs on trade deals, saying all of those need to removed is bad faith.

And then there is the free trade agreement between Canada and USA. It was originally passed decades ago.

Trump during his first term did not like it.
So there was a renegotiation. Fair enough.

Now the agreement he signed is "no good" and he wants concessions from Canada.

Just for clarity, I'm Canadian.

We have been an ally and the largest trading partner of the US for decades. And you elect a president who acts like a mafia don.... let me give you a deal you can't refuse. Or it be nice to annex you. Christ, look at the shit he is pulling on Greenland.

Yes, inflation sucks.... but it hit the whole world and it takes time to solve. But if voters are just going to look at their pain without considering the context it occurs in..... stupid voters.

But then to reelect him.... he blatantly said what he was going to do if elected. The media was definitely sane-washing him but he was a complete disaster the first time.

It will be an uphill battle and the damage will last years.

Trump's first election could be looked at as a mistake. Maybe the electorate is just not paying enough attention.

Quiet can be good.

Don't think of it as anti-social.... more taking a break to recharge extrovert batteries.

Due to various reasons, had XMAS with just my wife. Very quiet and low key. She as an introvert who has issues with some family members found it to be heaven.

Thank you for reading my bitching.

Not sleeping is not the end of the world.... just annoying.
And I'm sure they will adjust something so it won't be an ongoing problem.

I'm sure oncologist will adjust something but this is just annoying.

Previously had similar issues but only after dose reduction and they took out one of the steroids..... suspect there will be something changed for new time. Not sleeping is consider sub-optimal.
