Former Utah lawmaker Marsha Judkins is trailing Provo Mayor Michelle Kaufusi by 162 votes. Another round of results will be released later tonight, the county clerk tells me. Judkins says she believes those additional votes will help her. Kaufusi didn't agree to an interview today. #utpol

In the race for Orem mayor, Karen McCandless is currently ahead of the incumbent Dave Young, 53-47%. McCandless says if she wins, she wants to focus on helping people afford and buy homes. Young calls the race still "up for grabs" with more ballots being counted. #utpol

NEW: The Salt Lake Plaza Hotel will close November 1 and be demolished, the real estate arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (which owns it) announced today. The downtown site will be converted to a parking lot ahead of the open house of the Salt Lake Temple in 2027.

Wind is really fanning the #monroecanyonfire in central Utah today. Just a few minutes ago, these smoke plumes weren’t even visible. Firefighters have dealt with strong wind the last few days, with red flag conditions expected through Thursday.
