A nice day wandering around the impressive ruins of Jedburgh Abbey. Founded in 1118 by King David I, it has quite a storied history and according to ghost hunters is home to a particularly terrifying pair of spectres that stalk the abbey grounds.

Burned in 1322 & restored before finally destroyed in 1544, I spent the day visiting the ruins of Dryburgh Abbey - now home to some exotic trees, including a giant sequoia, a Tibetan cherry tree and an ancient yew tree, claimed to have been planted by monks in 1136. #dryburgh #abbey #historic

Out for a visit to Warkworth Castle, near the border of Scotland. Founded in the 12th century, this medieval fortress has its share of ghost sightings, including the spirit of a man running along the castle walls. #northumberland #warkworth #medieval #ghosts

A neolithic circle of 38 stones, Castlerigg stone circle was formed around 3,000 BC. According to folklore, the stones are petrified bodies of men who were turned into stone by a disgruntled sorcerer. I had a nice walk around as the snow fell. #lakedistrict #stonecircle #uksnow

Out for an afternoon run along Bamburgh beach. Stopped by the castle, built on a plateau of volcanic rock, just as it got dark. #bamburgh #northumberland

Out for a walk along Hadrian’s Wall. Stopped for a cup of coffee and a slice of cheesecake at the Roman Army Museum and watched their firelight display for Guy Fawkes night on the edge of the frontier. #hadrianswall #roman #guyfawkes #bonfirenight2024

Out for an evening run along Hadrian’s Wall. Stopping for a rest on what I think are the foundations of a Roman granary. It’s persuaded me to pick up a loaf of bread on the way home. #hadrianswall #roman

Up in #Scotland to visit the Wallace Monument - a stone tower that stands on a wooded hillside in Stirling. 246 steps to the top and worth it for the views. Especially with the autumn colour. 🍁🍂🍁 #wallacemonument

Awful to hear that the Sycamore Gap tree on Hadrian’s Wall was felled overnight by someone with a chainsaw. My favourite memory of it was one evening last winter as I watched the sunset on a wonderful snowy, misty landscape.
