I agree, your agent might know better. My own workflow is less traditional wisdom. When I'm not eager for my work, I take a break until I figure out why. If I force it, I'm just afraid it'll show in my work, you know?

I have an unease with self-publishing as well. I'm not against it by any means. It's purely personal. I just like the quality control that comes with traditional publishing, even for myself. I don't think trad pub will go away either. Someone will filter the good from the bad on some level.
