This morning while talking to my husband about our data viz palette, my 7-year-old got all snarky and asked “how could it possibly matter what color you use for charts?!?”

About 20 mins later, this is approximately where we ended up.

Reading "Endurance" by Alfred Lansing and just got to the part where the Shackleton Expedition convinced one dude they were going to a costume party at the South Georgia home of the whaling factory manager and he was the only one in a costume.

I'm a fan of using children's book art around the house. I have this one from "hey, al" hanging in my bathroom. I pulled it from an old used copy I found.

And while you're at it, check out Bisa Butler's other work. She primarily does these vivid quilted portraits of Black Americans. Some are famous historical figures, others are regular people who caught her attention in historical photos. It's just breathtaking. www.instagram.com/bisabutler/

I'll also share one of my favorite pieces of art, a QUILTED portrait of Octavia Butler, by the incomparable Bisa Butler. You can find her at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.

Just wanna share that in addition to being an absolute data viz all-star, @erindataviz.bsky.social is also a goddess among embroiderers.
Data viz women and textile art. Name a more iconic pairing.
