Some news! In August, I’ll be joining the Department of History at Georgetown. I’m going to miss Caltech (especially my students) and Pasadena but I’m really looking forward to moving back to the East Coast.

Janet Jackson- “Alright”
You ever hear a song or watch a video and wish you could have experienced it in context? Music can act as a time portal, even making us nostalgic for a time we didn’t even know.

For Day 3 of the #BlackMusicMonthChallenge share a song that makes you wish you were born in a different era.

Fun new find my brother picked up for me this weekend. I’m obsessed with this cover. It even has a couple songs I haven’t heard before like The Drifter’s cover of “Every Night” from McCartney.

“Fascism has established itself in a most disguised and efficient manner in this country. It feels so secure that the leaders allow us the luxury of a faint protest. Take protest too far, however, and they will show their other face.” —George Jackson, 1971
The Long Shadow of Racial Fascism - Boston Review
A debate is roiling about the aptness of comparing Trump to European fascists. But radical Black thinkers have long argued that racial slavery created its own unique form of American fascism.
