I get you but I kinda think the context where he said that is important. I read it more as “don’t blame artists for things completely out of their control”

not gonna bother adding this to the mwe thread but don't sleep on this new ol' burger beats. Ill Camille, woods, siifu, quelle, fly anakin, and more! feel like this one deserves more love

#mwe: As much as I love some woodwindy-synths, too many of the songs feel like intros or interludes or unfinished ideas that are building toward a place they never quite reach. Not sure if we're at hyperpop here or if we've circled back to OG. A lot of good ideas that never quite click for me.

#mwe: Gorgeous r&b with understated production that lets her vocals take center stage. Don't sleep on the captivating drum patterns throughout. Loved the consistent use of guitar. The lyrics feel sophisticated and deeply personal. Reminds me of a really good glass of wine.

#mwe The best of modern pop-r&b distilled to 22-minutes. Every track is solid but I fear my final brain cell will be occupied by "I've been a nasty girl" on repeat. Dope to see Nosaj Thing on the tracklist. Bonus points because I had no idea she was a Dena girl (even though she went to CV)

#mwe This is what I want from a big budget rap release. Hire musicians, get an Erykah feature, exhaust those label resources and give us a blockbuster. The concept is well executed and the lyrics are poignant, minus a couple of similes-too-far. Best major label rap release of 2024?

#mwe day 7:

Stylish production and interesting lyrics that I want to revisit. Wish the hooks grabbed me more. Pop artists should collab like rappers because them and Chappell Roan have all the complementary pieces for a home run.

#mwe day 6:

A catchy set that occasionally rises above its cliche arrangements into moments that approach pop mastery. I can’t tell if these lyrics are bad or if I’m old and I fear both may be true. No doubt she can sing tho. Will probably return to this in a late-night swell of drunken shame.

Ever wonder what it would feel like to explore an alien oasis while a robot massages your brain with cotton candy? That’s what this sounds like. Really like that it feels like a complete experience from start to finish. Makes me think of Scavenger’s Reign and worlds unknown.

#mwe day 4:

Reminds me of acoustic Brazilian pop music from the 60s but sung in English. If sampling is your bag there’s some heat in here. Bonus points for avoiding the cardinal sin of being too long. Peak music to dissociate into the apocalypse to.

#mwe day3:

If you trim some of the filler and excuse some genuinely terrible lyrics, there’s a really solid 8ish song project in here. James Blake feature worked better than I expected and I really liked the songs with more inventive percussion (tracks 1, 7, 8). Makes me think of sex as r&b should

#mwe day 2:

A bit outside of my usual genres but I really enjoyed this one. Lo-fi bedroom rock that places whispery vocals over crunchy guitars and heavy boom-bap drums, likely courtesy of co-producer Kenny Segal. Reminds me of being young, for some reason, and today I mean that in a good way.

#mwe day 1:

I'm not a huge techno fan so this mostly techno-pop album isn't really for me. "24hr Dog" and "Wanderlust" are standouts, maybe because they feel like the tracks with the most room to breathe. Otherwise I find myself missing the playful pop-r&b of Caprisongs.
