We find that these empirical patterns can be well-explained by a new metacognitive learning and prediction model - which uses prediction errors from the self and from the other to learn about the uncertainty we should expect to feel.

Across experiments, we find robust evidence for 'confidence matching' - with participant confidence ratings gravitating towards those of their partner. Critically though, we find that these biases in metacognition persist even after the interaction is over.

In this paper, Einar developed a new metacognition task - inspired by work on group decision making by Dan Bang. Participants proceed from making perceptual decisions alone, to decisions with a 'partner', and then alone again.
