One way to square: big point of independence is reduced chance of sacrificing long-term stability and growth for the sake of short-term juice. Loss of independence -> short-term juice more likely. So pop in asset prices now.

How do you distinguish between “I am buying because I think this will have high earnings in the future” and “I am buying because I think I can sell this for more money later”? They are pretty indistinguishable in practice

That was my theory going into the piece, but it turned out to be not only false but seemingly the opposite: the biggest employment gains young male grads have made in the past year have been in software and engineering jobs
