Become a landmark #poetry
Poem I went for a walk, even though it was a little too hot to be outside climbing hills. It was either that or sit, overthinking how when you leave, you still manage to drag shit along behind you, even when you've taken a stanley knife to the strings and anchor ropes. You can't sink half of yourself. The water takes everything, or nothing at all, even shadows swim. Dare yourself to not hide anymore, become a landmark. Daniel Duggan

I miss looking up to dad, seeing the underneath of his chin #FathersDay
Poem I’m forty eight but I still drew my dad a card and sent it to him because growing up never occurred to me. I didn’t get a letter stating when to mature from the government. I’m sure my parents mentioned it at some point but no doubt I was daydreaming at the time. I got my pens and pencils out and thought of where we used to walk when I wasn’t growing up. We would wander around the Lido Park, inspecting the bandstand, guessing how cold the water in the outdoor swimming pool was. I had a Tigger in each leg back then. Gravity had a right battle keeping me from cavorting with the Starlings. I miss looking up to Dad, seeing the underneath of his chin, but puberty came and gave me long legs. Poem I've got the sun's hat on and yes, it is a little big for me so I'm holding at a jaunty angle between my finger and thumb to keep it out of my eyes as I skip down the street. I sing Good Morning to everyone I meet until my lips crack. I'll not hibernate again.

A poem about a chipped mug, or is it? #poetry
Poem I knocked my mug off the arm of the bench at the front of the house. It lay on its side, spitting dregs into the spring kissed gravel and I watching it, smiling, wondering if the soil beneath likes a cup of tea now and then, or if it’s more of a coffee drinker. The mug didn't break, but there is a small cleft in its lip now, and I tongue it when I'm worrying about myself, about how I can still smile whilst falling inside out. Daniel Duggan

Poem Inners In my wardrobe, Spring's clothes hang ready, daffodils sewn along every hem, but I'm sat at my window, bundled up, attempting to slow the rain with thoughts of 9pm wall scaling sunsets. I scratch my itchy feet, the slant hill face of Lee Pen drooping heavy wet, the unrepentant sky adamant that I won't get closer than arm's length today, but then, it rolls up its snowdrop sleeves and there's the sun, nodding, knotting fire kissed ribbons along the branches of striptease trees. Poem I'm at the window, nose pressed to the glass, watching a dunnock mucking about in the hedge. There's a chonky pigeon about two foot above it, on an overhanging Plum tree branch and it gets to me, how, though it's so much smaller, the dunnock doesn't flinch at all, I admire that swagger, It makes me want to dance in front of a giant. Poem Pile On You can't touch me as this sheet does, from heart to heel all in one go, unless you lie atop me, like they did at school, when we played pile on, and I don't want you to do that, unless you are transparent. I want to be able to constantly stare at the light on the smoke alarm, as I wonder if the sheet would stick to my skin as I burn. Daniel Duggan
