When is a train a tram, and when is a tram a train? This question crossed my mind whilst travelling to Arosa the other day. This is undoubtedly a train, but the initial journey takes place entirely along the streets of Chur before climbing up into the mountains.

Today's moving restaurant is the bar car on the IC3 from Chur to Zürich. Thai green curry and a weissbier. @diningcar.at is there anything better than having a beer on a train?

Yes; a beer on a train with stunning scenery!

In usual Swiss fashion, as the train arrives, the bus waits to depart. Taktfahrplan integration at its finest.

At Zweisimmen we slowly run through a gauge changer, which increases the width of our wheel-base from metre to standard gauge.

A real treat to be able to travel over one of Switzerland's most interesting and picturesque railways: the Golden Pass Express from Montreux to Interlaken Ost.

Lovely way to pay tribute to the 65th anniversary of what is arguably the UKs most important locomotive class. Freight, passenger, RHTT and test trains, the #class37 has done it all, and continues to do so 65 years later. This is 37501 working the 11.10 from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster.

Remind me what is the point of LUMO again?

That's a shame, but understandable. It's a lovely scenic journey! I took that route earlier this year on the Istria sleeper train from Budapest.

Nice to see my employer, LNER, sponsoring the Leeds Beryl cycle hire scheme. Two sustainable modes of transport coming together 🤝

Time to finish off the last few chapters of @garethdennis.uk's excellent book, whilst taking the Intercités train from Bordeaux St Jean to Marseille Saint Charles. A thoroughly good read and perfect for those friends who need convincing of the potential of the railway.

It is also really promising to see Britain is leading the way when it comes to year-on-year passenger growth compared to 'The Big Three' European Railways. A 9% increase compared to 5% for Italy and Germany, and 7% in France.

Released today: the latest DfT statistics showing the shift away from rush-hour commuting and towards flexi-time working hours and the associated commuting patterns. This has also led to a lower Passengers in Excess of Capacity (PiXC) metric than pre-pandemic levels.

Car train through the Julian Alps! One passenger carriage, and seven car flats. The Autovlak provides direct transport through the Bohinj tunnel for both foot passengers and cars. At the end we reach Nova Gorica which is the #europeancapitalofculture2025.

Today was spent journeying along the beautiful Dalmatian coast from Split to Zagreb. Unfortunately there was no @diningcar.at in our consist, but thankfully there was air conditioning!

Nice to finally see the first of SWRs #Class701 Arterio trains in service. The AC is especially welcomed during the heat this weekend!

An enjoyable evening yesterday spent at the @worthvalley.bsky.social with a #class37. I really should visit more now that it is on my doorstep!

I particularly enjoyed this exchange...

#levelboarding in one direction, but not the other! Pleszew station in Poland a few weeks ago, where the #pkp mainline between Poznań and Kraków connects into a dual guage shuttle into the town itself.

I visited last week :)

Exciting news hearing that the Warsaw to Rijeka #nighttrain is confirmed for this summer, and now we can see how it will run from an operational perspective.

Another one for the @back-on-track.eu map!

You can't beat an #EU07 for character imo.

I count possibly four or five loco changes... adventurous!

Yes it is lovely stock, travelled on it from Zürich last Christmas with an Re6/6 over the Gotthard!

Interesting translation for the new
#TTI Rome to Marseille sleeper!

A selection from Avignon last weekend. Such a delightful little town that has so much character and doesn't feel as touristy as the Côte d'Azur. Oh, and there are two excellent craft beer bars.
