Should note that this is only in classical Shankaran Advaita Vedanta. Vishishtadvaita Vedanta uses ‘nirguna’ to mean Vishnu completely lacks impure attributes. Ramakrishna’s Vijnana Vedanta views Nirguna and Saguna as equal, not one being “ultimate” and the other “relative”.

Doubly interesting considering he himself is not really that popular. Everyone knows vaguely about eldritch horrors, Cthulhu, &c., but Lovecraft as a person is relatively unknown by most outside of maybe the adjective “Lovecraftian”.

In the sense of actually comparing the religions, no. But it does make sense in this case because the Germanic languages pulled the names of the weekdays from the Roman names using Interpretatio Germanica. I would agree that they should have noted that in the post, though.

They’re mainly going off Interpretatio Germanica, in which the continental form of Odin is interpreted as being their name for Mercury.

‘Thy’ in this sense actually used to exist, it later became ‘forthy’ but that is also obsolete now.

Indeed. It also seems that the Old English word already had the connotation of being for animals, as do its other Germanic cognates.

Honestly, I am one of the few who actually prefer e-books. The actual physical experience of a book is unmatched, but when it comes to reading I do so much better with an e-book, unfortunately. It helps me to focus more since I don’t have to worry about pages moving or the weight, &c.

Side note: I have no idea why I called it ‘Minus Zero’, lmao.

Not to say the more relaxed or silly film aren't fun, I just really think Godzilla works so much better as a disturbing nigh-horror film. Kaiju mindlessly fighting and destroying cities is great fun to watch, but it isn't near as impactful.

Oh, no problem, it's really nice to talk to people with similar interests and am grateful for the reading list! I will try to remind myself to give my thoughts, haha.

Only semi-related but I really wish there was a way to italicize titles or something…

Generally prefer more 'pure' horror, humour could be fine. I tend to dislike romance, but I am willing to try that out, as well. Really, it just depends—it could go either way for me.

Thank you again. Of the authors listed, I probably know the least about Blackwood, so I am very intrigued.

I will check them out. Thank you!

Very well put, actually, I will be using that as advice, haha. I would agree, I like Lovecraft's style but it can get rather distracting. I would lean more towards liking King's style, only I quite like archaisms and formal & obscure verbiage. Honestly, I read Smith just for vocabulary sometimes.

Sure, I'd love some recs! Of Howard's I read one of the Solomon Kane stories; never was too interested in Conan, personally. I will check out 'Pigeons from Hell', though.
