Except that Canada is never going to be a state, and continuing to discuss it after the Canadians have made clear it's not happening sounds a lot like professing a rooting interest for a war crime or coddling the dementia of a career criminal, adjudicated rapist, serial sexual predator and sociopath

President Biden should do this because it’s the right thing to do, but a fringe benefit is that doing it may force Putin stooge Trump to undo it before the eyes of the world at a time when undoing it takes a critical negotiating piece off the table in Russia-Ukraine talks—underscoring what Trump is.

1. This "expansion" would require military invasions of several allies in violation of international law.
2. It would violate several treaties.
3. The Louisiana Purchase was the sale of land by a colonial power (France). These are sovereign nations.
