Well no, that's very difficult. I'm talking about referring to disabled people as a whole group so using names is kinda impossible.
I also just call people by their name in normal conversation, funnily enough 😂.

I get brain fog too so I know that feel - but my wording was definitely a bit ambiguous which won't have helped (words hard sometimes 🤣)❤️

That is true, however I don't think people using person-first language really does much towards that... It often feels performative when nothing is actually being done to help us (especially when orgs *refuse* to be open to identity-first & don't respect our preferences & thoughts on it)

I could've probably worded my thoughts better in the initial tweet but I do appreciate & understand both sides from within the community - I wouldn't refer to someone in a way they didn't like if they told me 🥰

Within the disability community the conversation is much more open and accepting of other's preferences but 3rd parties just... aren't that way a lot of the time (probably because they see themselves as some sort of "authority" over us which is a whole ass problem in and of itself)

I know and appreciate this and that individuals have different preferences - I'm more speaking on resources *only* saying person-first is acceptable, and then people outside the community correcting us on our own language & refusing to change or listen - ends up condescending af
