Moving to a counsel-led questioning, involving CPS earlier in investigations, having court appointed expert witnesses, and pre-trial scrutiny of evidence by the judge is more likely to improve justice than getting rid of juries.

I think doctors are uniquely bad at arguing for better pay. Remembering the “we only get paid the same as Pret workers” a year or two ago. It’s like a special ability to make me think they deserve less whenever they try to explain why they deserve more.

There are lots of ways to make the argument for higher pay. The public love NHS doctors! Talk about skills, other nations, squeezed wages! But elephant in the room is the BMA and consultants are (whisper it) often from privileged circles and get lost in the rhetoric of entitlement and inequality.

Finally it suggests that the Liberal reforms are the reason local taxation is in a mess, which is the stupidest and most spurious claim in the whole article. That’s right the poll tax and council tax must have been Lloyd George.

It also suggests land value tax was responsible for the decline of the Liberal Party rather than, oh I don’t know, the rise of the Labour Party and the Great War.
