After success mixing with cyan, magenta, and yellow inks, I decided to try using the same pigmentation of Liquitex Basics Acrylic paint. Thinning each with Midwinter Minis Medium (equal parts matte medium and distilled water with a few drops of glycerin), I was able to get the same results.

It was an amazing Saturday at @dragon-fall.bsky.social. Finally met some of the streamers who've been amazing teachers like @junegoldbloom.bsky.social and @holyfirethem.bsky.social. I worked on Gary some more and got some cool merch. I think I may make the model I got from JGB into Zote the Mighty.

Used some of my newly mixed paints to get the base layer onto Gary, the Lil' Skeleton Boss. I put down the first layer of burnt umber. The next layer will be a lighter reddish brown. It's going to be a process.

I finally decided on armor colors for Lil' Skeleton Boss Gary by @twingoddessminis.bsky.social and wanted golden armor. The base color of Gold NMM is a dark brown going up in yellow brightness.

I spent some time mixing up some cadmium yellow. I made pumpkin, isoindoline yellow, and finally got to cadmium yellow all from having too much red in the initial mix. I now have more yellows I can use. I'll need to mix up a proper jar of burnt umber, but that's a tomorrow problem.
First attempt for cadmium yellow. Added too much red and used some of this paint to make the next one. This was the next attempt at cadmium yellow. Still not enough yellow in this mix. This color is pretty close to isoindoline yellow. Used this color to mix the final pot of paint. We finally got to cadmium yellow in this jar of paint.

The hardest part of this process was attempting to mix without the necessary paint colors. Here's yesterday's attempts. I was using primary yellow, cadmium red, and primary blue. All of the tutorials said to use cadmium yellow and primary yellow is generally a Hansa yellow.

Today was a productive day. I prepared a bunch of paints for a future print. I want to make golden armor for a mini and use the non metallic metal painting technique. For the past few days, I've been trying to make paint for the base layer: burnt umber. #minis #painting #nmm #miniatures

Going from top down and left to right: gray, isoindoline yellow, cadmium yellow, white, yellow, pumpkin. On the left side are one paint jar labelled burnt umber blueish and a 3oz bottle halfway of Midwinter Minis Medium. Midwinter Minis Medium uses 1 part matte medium, 1 part water, and not even a drop of dish soap. I used 3 drops glycerin instead to act as a wetting agent.

Recently picked up a new to me resin printer, an Anycubic Mono X 4K. I bought it off the previous owner for cheap because they were moving out of the country and the LCD screen for printing needs to be replaced. Now to wait for the parts...

Felt a mental funk for most of February/March. Decided to craft my way through it. Getting sick didn't help the long process of making this hardcover notebook from scratch, but I just took it out from under the brick press. I've eased the spine and she's a notebook.
Photos of a blank page notebook taken to showcase the height of the book. The notebook is covered in black fabric standing roughly 9.5" or 24 cm tall. Photo of the inside of the book. End sheets got a lot of glue/water mix on them, but I do think using cheesecloth and linen may have pulled some dye from the grey board into the end sheets. The end sheets of the text block have been stained from the drying process of the PVA water mix. Photo of my first finished hardcover notebook. Black fabric covers the headboards. The fabric has wrinkles patterned on the surface of the cover due to shifting the cover boards on top of the parchment paper when drying. The black notebook is roughly 6" wide by 9.5" tall by 1" thick or 16.5cm by 24cm by 2.1cm.

Picked up some basing material by @jollylark.bsky.social. I went with the uncolored material, but the colored/painted version were so cool.

The next bit of swag was from the @onepagerules.bsky.social booth. They were giving away a cast mini for a future battle box for their game Grimdark Future as well as giving away a special six sided die for patrons of their Patreon. I really like their models and they're incredibly easy to print.

Next to the model pieces, displayed on the small plastic bag they were packaged in, is a six sided die. The company's logo, a circle with the left aligned words ONE PAGE RULES in its center, replaces the six pips. Today was my second day visiting #Adepticon2025. I visited a little bit yesterday and signed up for the Why So Blue painting class by @maharunn.bsky.social. It was my first time using other paints and it was a very different experience from my usual paints.
Sitting at the light on my drive to the convention I saw a red two door Smartcar A far away shot of a miniature model of a female Orc spellcaster holding a staff and skull. The model is pinned onto a painting handle head. The skin is painted using blue and various hues. Photo from the beginning of the Why So Blue class. Wet pallette, tray of paint brushes, and cup of water all laid out with the model pinned in the paint handle. Close up shot of the orc spellcaster mini. Paint strokes were done to simulate tissue and muscle recesses. It looks splotchy and not as accurate as it could be. As the artist, I was unfamiliar with the paints and it was a really cool learning experience.
