It’s maddening to see the same issues after all these years of the Yzerplan. Every game the Wings make at least one dumb unforced mistake that creates a golden chance for the other team. I fear this team lacks strong player leadership — Yzerman never would’ve tolerated it when he was playing.

Genuine question: how much is the emotion and grief of the summer carrying over and affecting the team’s concentration levels? In both PL games, we seemed to lose focus as soon as we got a lead.

We will have plenty of firepower going forward (and just imagine if we add Isak!) but the lack of depth at CB could be our downfall. Hopefully the brain trust at FSG have a plan for that because otherwise there are no clear weaknesses in this team.

Great analysis! No question Isak is further along in his development and more clinical. But Ekitike has so many good qualities for his age. Would be fascinating to see an Ekitike vs Isak comparison based on Isak’s age 23 numbers.

Agreed. He handled the whole thing so poorly. There would’ve still been some sadness but no one begrudges him wanting to go live in Spain with his best mate!

Well said. Fans who defended him (including when he wasn’t even getting in the England squad because of his defensive frailties) and heard him wax poetic about his dream of being LFC captain are allowed to feel betrayed. Looking back, his actions feel quite cynical and fake.

LFC looked tired and uninspired for long stretches. Newcastle won every 50/50 and contested header (or at least it felt that way). Emotional hangover from losing in the CL? Tired legs?

Today was the worst performance from Trent in a long spell. Poor passing, bad decision making, and lazy defending. Hard not to think the Real Madrid rumors (discussions? agreement?) had an effect.

Lions are missing four key defensive starters (Hutch, Alim, Anzalone, and Davis) at this point. Those are important players but even with those injuries, shouldn’t they be competing a little better than this? Hard to imagine getting to the Super Bowl with this D.

Would the NHL ever make all games worth 3 points? Regulation win = 3 points; OT or SO win = 2 points; OT or SO loss = 1 point; regulation loss = 0 points. Creates strong incentive to go for the win before OT and gets rid of imbalance in overall “value” of each game. Pleez NHL do this
