The #Neve glacier on #Snowfield Peak is one of the largest glaciers in the #Cascade #Mountains that isn't found on one of the volcanoes. We came down from the saddle in the background, and exited here onto the Colonial Glacier while on the #Isolation #Traverse #mountaineering #NCNP

The Ptarmigan Traverse traces an exquisite alpine route above tree line along jagged rims of trailless U-shaped valleys choked with devil's club. Views, isolation, and a primordial roaring chorus of waterfalls make it unique in the world. #mountains #Cascade #WA #tramping #mountaineering #PNW

When you have bad days, recall that they don't have to define your life's work or meaning. They can just be bad days.

Something like this perhaps:

Hadn't seen one of these guys in a few years: verdin.

We saw thousands of sandhill cranes heading northbound against a chilly winter wind today at Bernardo Wildlife Area in the Rio Grande Valley. The Ladrones were a great backdrop for our sightings of pintails, green teals, kestrels, and others, including a little verdin! Fun Valentine's Day outing.

Leviathan, 13,528ft, Needles Range, #Weminuche Wilderness, #Colorado.
Deep in a trailless area of #mountains speckled with 14ers, this giant hides its north face well. Note the hiker at the bottom of the pic looking across the 1/2 mile wide drainage toward the looming face. #hiking #backcountry

The wilderness section of the Gila River in New Mexico is a remote and unique experience. We hiked back to our put in through the mountains which made for a great loop.

Cerro Parido and Bear Mouth, New Mexico.
Like the pillars of ruined temples, these volcanic monoliths help guide one along the northern edge of Mesa Chivato, through amazing backcountry ranchlands in what some call the Checkerboard east of the Navajo nation in northwest #NM.

Definitely what dreams are made of.
No one around, no bugs, just us swimming in a huge alpine, granite lined lake on a warm, clear day.

The #Quelccaya Ice Cap, 18,700ft, in southern #Peru is the largest tropical #glacier on 🌎. ZOOM IN, you'll enjoy a few details. The scale of this thing is insane!
I did a solo bike tour around it in 2016. Beautiful, lonely, and immense. 📸 taken from remote, high attitude ranchlands

#Climbing the Middle #Teton with a buddy, we were nearing the top of Cunningham Ridge as #sunset came upon us. Oops. The view of #NezPerce below us to the east was amazing, despite a cold night out in the #mountains. #JacksonHole #GTNP

In winter, New Mexico's Sangre de Cristo Mountains are windswept & lonely, greeting #backcountry skiers with eroded winter snow called #sastrugi. Santa Fe Baldy's #skiing is found in the eastern #powder bowls in the leeside of these sastrugi covered ridgelines. #NM #Rockies #winter #photogrpahy

Another reminder that July in the #SanJuan #Mountains of #Colorado is a great time to do some #trail #running. Just look at those views and #flowers. This is the #CT Colorado Trail at the head of South Mineral Creek near #Silverton. This was our favorite loop of the summer of 2025.

We did some great #trail #running loops this Fall. This is on Penitente Peak in #SantaFe along the #Skyline trail with Santa Fe Baldy and the Truchas range in the back, in the Sangre de Cristo Mtns.
#NewMexico is awesome with nearly no one on the trails. #nature #hiking #publiclands

Looking out at the future, trying our best to predict what is the easiest and safest way along the path, knowing the big picture, but having to guess at the nuances. Isn't that just life.

1/4 In Across That Bridge, John Lewis defines patience not as passive resignation, but as strategic, active persistence essential for lasting social change. He argues long-term commitment—even in the face of violent opposition ensures that the pursuit of justice is sustained even after a fight.
