Yes, but it’s British exceptionalism to think that the EU would just go back to how things were in June 2016 as though the referendum never happened.
The UK needs to understand that Brexit has fundamentally changed the relationship, probably in the long term.

The EU would have the UK back, but need to be convinced there's no chance of it all unravelling in a few years time.
EU has got over Brexit & now largely treats the UK as a 3rd country (see max 90 days per 180 in Schengen, need for fingerprints on entry etc)

True the UK was a net payer but the EU has moved on - see the fact that pre Brexit there were 6 ships/week between Ireland & Europe. Now there's over 30. EU need to be convinced a Reform govt. won't reverse any changes

The EU is a trade organisation which has stringent conditions for membership. Frankly they have largely moved on from Brexit, and were the UK to express a wish to rejoin they would likely be subject to the same criteria as any other country (Euro membership, perhaps also Schengen if Ireland wanted)

Also from the perspective of the EU, given the troubles & expense of dealing with the UK over the past decade, why should they allow the Uk anything, particularly if there’s a chance of a Reform government?

True, but it was in opposition. It was the Tories who implemented it. You can criticise Starmer & Labour for not seeking to reverse it

When in Iceland years ago, went past the new footy stadium. The first game was Iceland v Portugal, and that the Portuguese requested that Ronaldo had his own dressing room. The response was in that case the rest of the team would have to change on the bus as there was only 1 dressing room per side.
