Fuck it. Melt it all away in the yellow chaos flame, everything that divides and distinguishes.

The DMG has more to say on the matter of divine magic at least

“The scarlet rot is one one of the deadliest things in the Lands Between, for it has no cure, and famously not even the demigods could stave off its effects. I guess no one told them about preserving boluses, huh?”

Advice on how to effectively handle conflict between players, good communication on various levels. The entire chapter has a laser focus on building fun for everyone, which has so many components.

My favorite is the guidelines about players exploiting the rules, though. Good. Faith. Interpretation.

The Game Expectations sheet is a simple session zero tool to make sure everyone is on the same page for what they want out of a game. Crucial

I love the stepped framework for session prep depending on how much time you have.

Chapter 1 is a great intro to what a Dungeon Master is and does, with great general, foundational advice.

As I sit without power for the 16th hour, why not start that full read of the 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide?

I’ll periodically chime back in here to mention things that strike me. Strahd, Asmodeus, and an illithid approve. #dnd

"Now rot..."

A little something I've been tinkering for fun. Malenia, Blade of Miquella. Stat block for a two-phase #dnd fight using the Mythic monster framework.

The colossus returned, unleashed one last force beam which they had managed to heal enough to survive, and tore the thing down, revealing the remains of the arcane machinery in its head. With the drifting souls of the dead free, they used the machine to reverse the puzzle cube, and claimed victory!
October 30, 2023 at 6:55 PM
Recovered, the characters struck out to the final showdown, witnessing the Shrouded One sacrificing the souls of two willing death giant reapers. Completing the ritual, the palace and all the arcanotech machinery within transformed (transormers style) into a Runic Colossus!
October 30, 2023 at 6:45 PM
Flying back to the temple, they observed the prismatic shield around the palace crumble, revealing Death runes carved all around the building, crackling with more of that soul energy and channeling it up throughout the building. At the temple they rested and enjoyed a Heroes' Feast. Good forethought

Oh right, this was the forge where the sentinels worked, in a ruined iron tower that looked like it mostly repelled a siege. They all got to the disk can got out of range literally the turn before the pursuing golems recharged their force beams.
October 30, 2023 at 6:41 PM
The sentinels move to attack, but the Barbarian is faster, using her Wild Magic Rage to teleport/leap and smash the rune on one construct's face. The golem responds by channeling energy in a disintegrating force blast from its chest (same damage as the poison breath, but a line of force).
October 30, 2023 at 6:35 PM
The ghost also bestows a supernatural charm of fortitude (10 temp HP) on the party, and shows them how to operate the transport disks so they can reach the forge tower, where the prismatic shield is powered. There they find two Huge iron golems etched with Death, Fire, and Shield runes.
October 30, 2023 at 6:31 PM
The transport disk leads to the northmost platform with an intact structure. Malachite roof shingles, bronze doors. A storm giant temple, where characters mess with a tapestry depicting the construction of another enclave (Thundering Observatory), and awaken the ghost of a storm giant.
October 30, 2023 at 6:22 PM
The bodies are rot trolls, the souls are spirit trolls, bound as guardians by whoever is repurposing the ancient arcanotech left behind in this remnant of a collapsed giant empire.

The characters are victorious after a fierce battle (the restored Storm rune empowered the Bard's Call Lightning).
October 30, 2023 at 6:16 PM
The characters worked together to solve an ancient magic puzzle cube, which opened a portal into the demiplane of Horizon's Edge. They steped through and landed on a platform floating in the space, covered in standing stones with carved Giant runes, many of which were defaced.
