The GOP couldn’t give two shits about kids. They say drag queens and the LGBTQ community are a threat. Their cult members scream “groomer” and “pedo” at innocent people. Meanwhile the GOP is actively aiding in the kidnapping of children.

Slava Ukraine
Russia kidnaps Ukrainian children and gives them to Russians to erase their heritage and demoralize Ukraine. Over 20,000 so far. And the US just stopped helping track these kids and likely deleted the database of all the research. Pure evil, right maga?

This.
Any four Republican Senators could stop this at any time simply by threatening to block all action (or even caucus with the Democrats) if Trump doesn't make certain concessions. They won't, but that should be a much bigger story than whether the Democrats are doing everything that *they* can.

But clearly, this was Trump's doing all along. just wait for the spin.
For all of his dystopian rhetoric, by many traditional metrics, the America that Trump will inherit from Biden is actually in better shape than that bequeathed to any newly elected president since Bush came into office in 2001. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/05/u...
Trump Sees the U.S. as a ‘Disaster.’ The Numbers Tell a Different Story.
President Biden is bequeathing his successor a nation that by many measures is in good shape, even if voters remain unconvinced.

There is no better time than right now to abandon Twitter.

Make it useless. Worthless.

I know how hard it is to leave. Twitter was my drug of choice, but I couldn’t stay there in good conscience. We all do the best we can do. I have to shop at Walmart but I never visit Hobby Lobby or Chick Fil A. I boycott TSC which makes things difficult for farm needs. If you can leave, you should.

How petty and narcissistically self-absorbed do you have to be to whine about the fact that the flag will be at half-mast on Inauguration Day?

Thank goodness for people like former WAPO cartoonist @anntelnaes.bsky.social, American hero. This may only be the rough of the cartoon she planned to run before she was told she couldn't, but it speaks volumes, perhaps, especially in this form.

Once again, a very simple way for the Chief Justice & the other 5 Wizards In Robes to receive less criticism would be to stop completely ignoring the Constitution, the plain meaning of words, decades of legal precedent, the actual history of the Republic, & data/empirical evidence/statistics.
I’d be more sympathetic to Chief Justice Roberts’ lament about the (real) threats to the independence of the federal judiciary if I knew that at least once in the past few years he looked in the fucking mirror and said, “Yeah, I should have handled that differently.” www.nytimes.com/2024/12/31/u...
Chief Justice Roberts Condemns Threats to Supreme Court and Judiciary
In his year-end report on the federal judiciary, the chief justice decried violence, intimidation and disinformation and warned against defiance of court rulings.

If a church doesn’t have a food pantry or a soup kitchen or a closet full of clothes and blankets open to the public or isn’t showing up at natural disasters to help, why does that church have a tax-exempt status?

……. okay yeah I had to sit with this one for a minute

in America we really do have zero reason to trust we wouldn’t be shot in that situation

and we know that’s fucked up but we forget how UNIQUELY fucked up it is???
seeing people (americans) be kind of blown away by the fact that the martial law solders in korea were armed and yet, as far as we know, not a single person was shot and it's really making me realize how conditioned we are to accept fatal violence against our own citizens as a foregone conclusion.

We're just about done counting but Trump's national vote lead fell a bit more today and is now a touch below 1.5% points in both the Cook tracker and the NYT page, although both round up to 1.5. Oh and Trump is at either 49.9% or 49.8.
