Also no contest in other crucial ways, sadly

No contest for me - the early morning sessions are slowly converting my children to test cricket

I sincerely do not understand the business case here. Literally nobody is going to subscribe to TNT on the basis they have the commonwealth games?!

Also a problem labour will realise has consequences when they try and get the vote out at the next election

Does this mean I was restrospectively rarely late for a lecture rather than reliably always late? Great news!

Somewhat relatedly, it is driving me insane that people are still credulously saying stuff like "Nigel Farage is the firewall against the really nasty far right." Even if that is sort of true for him as an individual (doubtful) have people...looked around?

I really enjoyed "Christmas Counts" a couple of years ago which really made the importance of rigorous census methodology the central message of the story. Wasn't too long though, thankfully.

I think I've heard a more generalised claim about needing migrants to rebuild the 'mother country' after the war, to be fair. I don't know whether he is coherently pointing that out as a misconception or what. My guess is probably...not.

Why not both?

Still think it's a worthwhile exercise because forecasts would be being done but I'm a less transparent way otherwise. The fact that you and @stephenkb.bsky.social are able to provide this kind of scrutiny is something that I am not convinced would be possible in the same way.

If you've nationalised the entire economy you actually definitely don't need a wealth tax.

I think it is anti intellectual but I think that's actually a symptom of a bigger problem that politics has become anti argument. From "there's nothing labour about..." to "there's nothing Christian about..." we no longer even attempt to argue for things on their own merits.

Jesus famously went from town to town telling everyone that the status quo was absolutely how he thought the world should be.

How long before posters are outraged on Mumsnet because their house hasn't been valued highly enough to be eligible for the mansion tax

Could you adopt a rule like they used to use for NHS funding (they may still do) where changes to funding totals/forecasts were moderated so you were always moving in the right direction but you weren't constantly making big changes and then overcorrecting?

Love the theory. I have a related theory to that which is that you should pay attention to the selection dynamics under which politicians rose to prominence as a pretty good guide to the skills they will have and those they might lack. The opposition they face is part of but not all of that.

Also they literally already removed citizenship from somebody when in government. Different circs but still.
