Not the prettiest plate, but we made something a little different tonight at the lake. Cold smoked and then pan seared lamb shanks with a balsamic reduction over mashed potatoes and a side of broccoli. I order lamb when dining out 2-3 times a year, but this was my first prep attempt. Pleased.

Winter Solstice solo pheasant hunt yesterday. Lots of snow and blown over cattails made for tough walking for 60yo human and 9.75yo good girl. Some bad luck and bad shooting made it a long and hard 17k step day, but we ground out our three. Grateful

Ooof, so true (as a 3x lab owner, the last of which is 9.75 y/o and I’m having a hard time acknowledging that her days are numbered). She’s such a good hunter and such a good girl.

@walterolson.bsky.social, not up to your stds, but 2nt was wild hvstd (today) cold smoked and then sautéed duck breast over mixed grains. Cold smoked for 1 hr, and then cooked hot/fast in butter/oil infused with onions, garlic and poultry herbs. Rdux finished with fig preserve, bourbon and mpl syrup

These eight beauties came with us from our prior family lake cabin to our current cabin. I drank out them as a kid and we still use them today.
