This morning's San Ramon #earthquake swarm. A 3.8-magnitude quake kicked off the sequence at 9:38 a.m. PST About 40 more shakes, most between magnitude 1.0 and 2.0, have occurred since.

The same area experienced prolonged earthquake swarms in 1990 and 2015.

Just had another little shake -- 2.2 magnitude, the red dot on the USGS map -- along the Hayward Fault in #Berkeley. Yellow dots mark quakes from the past week; white dots show quakes since the series began with a 4.3 temblor on Sept. 22. #earthquakes @kqednews.kqed.org

Strolling past the Campanile at UC Berkeley, came across this memorial for Annie, a peregrine falcon who nested atop the bell tower for years (and raised more than 20 offspring), and Archie, her most recent mate. Biologists believe avian flu killed both birds. More: news.berkeley.edu/2025/02/24/u...

Wow! It’s a toll scam! Two in one day!

Looking at the senders’ IDs, it looks like they’ve given up pretending to be legit.

February 12: Lincoln's birthday, which puts me in mind both of the Memorial in Washington (photo credit: Wei/Flickr) and the 1963 Bill Mauldin cartoon, which seems appropriate today. (More on Mauldin's work here: www.everygoddamnday.com/2013/11/linc... )

Pardon me, ESPN, why did you turn over your football broadcast for the president to merely recap his inaugural speech? He barely mentioned the game until he’d run through his grievances and “American exceptionalism” commentary.
