This aligns with @janrosenow.bsky.social's recent findings that even at fairly average efficiency, heat pumps have reached cost parity with gas boilers, and at higher efficiency and/or smart tariffs, running costs can be half those of boilers.

The first finding came as a surprise to me: that boiler owners aren’t necessarily aware of the emissions caused by their system. Only 18% disagreed with the statement “My heating system is environmentally friendly”.

I think this chart is a really good visualisation of how much of an opportunity rooftop solar is in terms of bill savings, real "low hanging fruit". But the benefits aren't limited to the household, rooftop solar also reduces pressure on the grid, meaning fewer costly upgrades in coming years.

We need leadership and action on three fronts: clean power, clean heat, and warm homes. The direction of travel is positive in terms of renewable electricity, but efforts to move away from gas heating are lacklustre, and insulation schemes are not hitting the numbers they need to be (see photo).
