We made had more folks chanting and cheering in little Duarte, CA than the mad king did at his birthday fiesta #NoKings @maddow.msnbc.com

Yesterday morning outside the front door. No power still. Finally got cell service back today. And we were lucky with wind direction. Very grateful. And sad for our LA community.

Anyone watch Rose Parade?
Flowers aside, here’s a short list of foods used to decorate the floats: rices, lentils, beans, peas, peppers, cranberries, citrus fruit, herbs, squash, coconut, artichokes, and tons of seeds. Sincerely interested in your opinions. Waste of food or good PR for plants 🌱?

I love creating hugelkultur grow mounds…perfect for naturalistic landscapes, water retention or redirection, or just building grow space on top of really bad soil. 🌱

Love integrating natural materials into garden design. Bed created out of recently cut ficus tree limbs and planted with CA natives. 🌱

Gotta love when you can make more plants for free. Rooting the runners from CA Native strawberries. Smaller than normal but amazing flavor and a great ground cover for shady areas. 🌱

It’s remarkably easy to grow the most expensive spice on Earth in your home garden.
Saffron grows from bulbs / corms. They bloom in the Fall and produce 3 threads that you want to carefully hand harvest on flowering day. Dry in parchment paper and place in an airtight jar. 🌱

I did not have “prep for tropical storm” on my So Cal WX Bingo card. Taking down shade cloths, securing tools and lightweight materials, bringing in young plants & seedlings, and harvesting anything close to ripe. Those winds can do some damage. 🌱

I had no idea beer chains were a thing. But all for it!

Get off my eggplant! Grasshoppers may be kinda cute but they’re seriously destructive in the garden. 🌱

Apparently I now have a farm cat. This pretty girl’s been hanging in the okra shade for days so I guess I should find her some lunch. @darthbluesky.bsky.social
