Based on some cursory googling of the Haudenosaunee, I‘m curious if you have played King of Dragon Pass. It’s about fantasy vikings, but mechanically, it might sort of rhyme with what you’re looking for. It’s atypical.

Good/bad news: This has been around for a while. In my finance classes, I have a TurboTax example/problem: "Get your refund now for $50 so you don't have to wait three to five weeks for the IRS." For a typical refund, Intuit makes a 70% return on these disguised loans! :(
