unfortunately I do think you kind of have to learn raw pointers/C arrays to really understand C++, and knowing their quirks informs why stuff like std::array is the way it is

"if you pass an array to a function it can no longer tell how big it is, you have to tell the function how big the array is in advance" - they made the language wrong then!

(i am joking but it is funny finding out how much harder this is than c# or python)

...that said this strategy does tend to lead to the one dirty part of the kitchen being the stove itself, which is rarely cleaned

my kitchen is generally cleaner when I cook regularly? I just clean while things are on the stove or in the oven

you've never had roommates who pile stuff in the sink really bad seeing anything accumulating in the sink gives me flashbacks; things either get hand washed immediately or go straight into the dishwasher

I read it as "trans guy" but yeah same ballpark lol

the point of these channels is not to watch a vocal coach give their insight about someone's singing it's so you can watch it and feel validated that a professional thinks the music you like is Good

I'd probably also trust everyone I've gone out with, not that that's a long list

I have like probably multiple friends I would trust with the combo to such a safe? not that I'd have a particular reason to give it to them

am I just too lax about it

Debate kids are like if thinking Guitar Hero made you good at guitar was a political ideology.

saw this in another reply but absolutely have to add rhythm games to the list. trying to follow a note as it scrolls across the screen at 30fps causes me eyestrain after about 10 seconds (same reason I can't read movie credits lol)
December 20, 2025 at 8:59 AM
I think this is basically correct, but I'll tentatively add any 3D games with either mouse or gyro aim to the list. Aiming with a control stick is ~fine at 30fps cause the motion is smooth but jerkier mouse/motion inputs really benefit from a higher fps
December 20, 2025 at 8:50 AM
do you think people talking about wanting fps higher than 60 don't have high frame rate monitors? they've been pretty inexpensive for like,,, a decade? lots of us have them

even w/ a 60hz monitor, a game running at a higher framerate has lower latency, which does matter youtu.be/hjWSRTYV8e0?...
How many frames a second do you need?

video generally has motion blur which makes it smoother, and camera movements in film/tv/video are almost never as jerky as mouse-controlled camera movements in a video game, where the higher fps is more noticable

60fps video looks fine. AI-upsampled video looks weird but native 60fps video is cool

it's not placebo. i genuinely got multiple ranks better in CS:GO when I upgraded from a 60hz to a 120hz monitor because having a higher framerate just flat out gives you an advantage in fast-paced competitive games
