On Wednesday afternoon immigration lawyers filed an emergency motion asking Boston-based U.S. District Judge Brian Murphy to block any removals to Libya, or any third country, citing 'alarming reports' in the media about imminent deportations. They argued that their clients, who are from Laos, Vietnam and the Philippines could be sent in a matter of hours. It's unclear if the judge in the case would be able to block the deportation.

The Texas House is in session and hearing the Voucher bill SB2. We can’t afford paying more taxes for less accountability. Most Texas counties lack a private school option. With SB2, TX Republicans are attacking our kids' right to access quality and FUNDED public education.

TEXAS SCHOOL FUNDING BASED ON PROPOSED SB2 PUBLIC SCHOOL FUNDING • $6,500 per student (increase from $6,100 value set in 2019, but does not match inflation and still puts Texas in bottom 10 states for per-student funding) • Funding deductions for student absences • STAAR Test performance and graduation requirements • Spending mandates from the state • Must accept any student to attend • Schools available to attend locally within geographical boundary • Transportation to school provided to students beyond certain distance • Teachers held to certification standards PRIVATE SCHOOL VOUCHER FUNDING • $10,000 per student • No funding deductions for student absences • No required curriculum or testing standards • No spending mandates from the state • Can reject or expel any student due to disciplinary issues, failure, or special needs (504/disability) • Schools not typically available in lower-income or rural areas • No transportation provided to school • No certification standards for teachers • Schools can raise tuition rates - still making schools unaffordable for low-income students Map of Texas showing 158 out of 254 with no private school option.
