The Kinks Dave Davies said of our version of Father Christmas:

“Wow, I like the vocal interpretation and the twist on the guitar! It’s great!” Brother Ray, a man of few words simply said - “I like it”.

The Power of Two: Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai

Despite its dreadful title – I mean, seriously, think about it. Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. I’m guessing that it carries more meaning in Japanese than English – AHEM. In spite of its dreadful title, Rascal (I’m not typing the whole name again) is actually a pretty clever and honest look at teen-aged insecurity. I don’t know if you were insecure as a teen-ager, but I damned sure was.

Out in the streets of Casieeno the usual theater of post-concert mayhem played out in streets filled with mud and blood and beer, and just about any other fluid that could come from, get into, or smear on the human body.

Novel in November update

Yep, it's done and yep, I dood it again. 75000 words in November, and 8000 more in December and the sequel to The Pirates of H-Space is in the can. This puppy gonna need a boatload of editing, but as they say, you can't edit a blank page.

Okay, let’s be honest about things: One of the tropes that suffuses the romance genre is “Meet Cute.” In live action, for instance, their dogs’ leashes become intertwined or the woman accidentally rear-ends the man with her car because she’s been nattering on the phone. Yeah, the writers who put that on paper should be sentenced to writing for the Hallmark Channel in perpetuity.

Normally I would hand the deconstruction of soft-core porn like Why the Hell Are You Here, Teacher? over to Galileo’s alter egos Salvati and Simplicito, and no doubt Salvati would shut up and let Simplicito take care of it. After all, Simplicito has figured out the magic formula: Give your audience what they want That’s what Teacher (life’s too short to write that title out every time) does, although maybe we can dig into it.

Character Analysis: Momiji Sohma
I’m not going to look you in the eye and pretend that Momiji Sohma is essential or key in any way to the plot of Fruits Basket. Let’s be honest: If he disappeared entirely it would be hard to tell he was gone. The show wouldn’t be as good, though, and that would be for a couple reasons. One of the reasons is that Momiji’s constant good nature is just plain fun to watch, isn’t it?

About the Rraan:
"There were still predators and prey in the waters, but the Rraan people had dragged themselves forth from the water and claimed the earth for themselves. And after they perfected the smelting of iron there was no more backchat from mouthy plants about who ran which planet."

How the hell did this limited concept get three seasons already with a fourth in the works? Let’s consult our resident writers, Salvati and Simplicito on the matter … Being banned from their usual coffee shop because the wait-person, Mikuru Asahina, has a restraining order against Simplicito, they are meeting in the Seaside coffee shop with a representative of the Japanese Outdoor Activities Organization, a consortium of businesses devoted to promoting (and selling, of course) the outdoor lifestyle … you know, camping, fishing, biking.

Yes, it's the first day of November again, and you know what that meant: National Novel Writing Month started. Well, the national organization that coordinated all that stuff collapsed in a giant heaping, stinking pile of well-earned bad PR. No coordination, no goodies, no connections with thousands of writers around the world any more. But the challenge remains: Can you write 50,000 words of original fiction in 30 days?

The philosophy in anime and manga’s not all that deep, when you get right down to it. Why should it be? Their job is to get eyeballs, usually the eyeballs of teenaged Japanese boys, onto the goodies. And by “the goodies” I don’t necessarily mean Misato Katsuragi’s cleavage, although that does happen. But there’s still room in there to explore some kinds of fairly simple but thoughtful things.
