I agree with you (absolutely and forever?) There's something about Rose Tremain. I has a friend irl who also likes some of her books and dislikes others in almost complete opposition to me. It's like marmite but within a single oeuvre. Are there any other novelists like that?

Loved Gustav, Road Home, Absolutely & Forever, Music & Silence (?) but the others ... I mean they're good and I can see how well they're written. But.
