No worries! I think that both are absolutely fine and it depends on what you are most comfortable with.
It's interesting that 'how I' gets more views! Maybe people are overall more interested in hearing about other people's experiences 🤔

Personally, I find that ‘how to‘ implies that there is a ‘correct’ way to do it, so I would go for something like ‘how I’. But at the same time ‘how to’ may be fine, especially if followed by ‘like a PhD student’ or something like that. (E.g. how to read an article like a PhD student)
