Running this reveals a whole gallery of hidden images! 🖼️ This is steganography - hiding data within data! 🔐 The MATLAB developers embedded these images in the binary structure of the original data. 🤯
There is a full explanation of these images here - blogs.mathworks.com/steve/2006/1...

Did you know MATLAB has secret images hidden in plain sight? 🔍
Type `image` in your command window. You'll see a mysterious upside-down boy's face in blue tones. But that's just the beginning... 🎯 🤫

💻 EEGLAB is an open-source analysis toolbox, amongst the most widely used packages for EEG research for over two decades. A recent survey shows a whopping 63% of researchers have used it for ERP plotting…. But watch out for newcomers! 📈

On Mac/PC I did need to quit Zotero occasionally when messing in Word. I found dis-abling this made my crashes much more manageable.

❤️ But like all open source projects, PTB depends on a small team of dedicated developers. For just 200€/year, you can support PTB and its wonderfully irascible maintainer Mario Kleiner (www.psychtoolbox.net#service)

📊 By 2018, PTB had been downloaded 285,897 times and appears in thousands of papers annually. From humble beginnings to a cornerstone of psychological science!
November 5, 2024 at 12:45 PM
🌉 The breakthrough? PTB let researchers write simple high-level code while maintaining millisecond-precise control of display & sound hardware. Like having a research assistant who speaks both English and machine code fluently!

📊 Delightful new preprint reveals a meta *power law* in physics! The mathematical symbols & operators we use to describe nature's laws... follow their own mathematical pattern! (image from New Scientist)

What lies between a function and its derivatives? In kinematic terms; between Position and Velocity? Between Velocity and Acceleration? We can see a pattern in d^N/dt^N... but what if N was 0.5? 🤔

Other noises? Yes... if we generalise an exponent α;
1/f^-2 Blue Noise
1/f^-1 Violet Noise
1/f^0 White Noise
1/f^1 Pink Noise (a common behaviour in biological systems!)
1/f^2, Red Noise / Brownian Noise (drunkard’s walk!)
1/f^2+ sometimes called Black Noise.

Making all the right noises...

MATLAB has wgn for White (Gaussian) Noise and pinknoise for Pink. The power spectral density (PSD) of Pink is 1/f and so drops off as f increases (-10dB/dec as pictured). #MATLAB #MATLABAmbassador #academicsky #psychology #psychscisky

There is an excellent in-depth guide to that and more in "A concise guide to reproducible MATLAB projects" to make folders for disparate elements of your code rse.shef.ac.uk/blog/2022-05...
