America will never be seen as a reliable partner again if we can just flip governments ever 4 years and start economic wars.

Call your reps. Now. And three times a day. Minimum.

It certainly is easier to say for the rich, yes. But I guess the thought is nothing is learned until those responsible suffer.

That supposes they are capable of introspection. Or perhaps we just hope they become "anti-incumbent voters".

If we can vote then ... weeeee!

It's the usual billionaire strategy.

Buy the dip. Except it's going to be a big dip this time.

Like Elon said - expect pain.

Don't sell stock. What you sell is what they can buy.

They WANT to firewall the country.

True

These expectations that bombastic language changes perspective doesn't resonate with me.

Nevertheless Clinton did try a go at UHC. I remember the ads. Then we got punished with 12 years of republican governance ( and Newt ).

Imagine what the world would be if Gore was elected.
February 1, 2025 at 5:07 PM
Certainly they did that.

I find slogans like "defund the police" to be heavy handed, because it doesn't get the message across to what is a very moderate electorate. It makes everyone else have to explain from the back foot about trying to transition money to more liberal approaches to society.

Presuming we get to write those books or that there will be a society capable of living in whatever conditions climate change puts us in.

😞 indeed
February 1, 2025 at 3:45 PM
Well, I don't think they had a lot of time ( thanks Biden ), but on top of that the internet screech was at an all time high.

Harris' loss was 3 decades in the making. The country had a long time to do the better thing and opted not to so many times.

I'm a liberal! Actually a progressive.

The breadth of the Democratic tent is much wider than one would imagine.

Voting is a meaningful way to obstruct fascism.

If you can't do the basic thing don't expect people to do the hard thing within two weeks.
February 1, 2025 at 2:41 PM
Yea, that seems about right.

They've been telling people to opt out of voting for two decades so the only way Democrats scored wins was from picking up the middle.
February 1, 2025 at 2:37 PM
I'm definitely not proposing such a thing. Just calling out rhetoric from others that has no real plan.
February 1, 2025 at 2:35 PM
Uhh. Yea, I don't think you'd get a good result from that.

Trump would immediately intervene possibly barring Democrats from entering the chamber.

I live in a small town in Maine. I can usually tell who the MAGA folks are and who the dupes are. I don't think the dupes will come for others. They'll probably watch in silent horror.

Germany had lots of those folks left over. Can we achieve the same result without death? I don't know.
February 1, 2025 at 3:51 AM
Well this certainly makes the final day of January more tolerable. ( /s )
February 1, 2025 at 3:46 AM
Bottom up, local first.
February 1, 2025 at 3:45 AM
I'm sure they could put some spanners in the confirmation hearings, but they haven't exactly been silent there either.

I think there's lots of people who don't think it is as bad as we do, yet.

And unfortunately there is no way we can pass an impeachment vote.
February 1, 2025 at 3:35 AM
The popular phrase is 1/3 of people would kill another 1/3, while 1/3 watches.

In that situation it is not really the entire population of conservatives that would partake in the murder of others.

A gun won't stop the military, but it might buy you some time, certainly.
February 1, 2025 at 3:33 AM
Ok, I do like the idea of showing up and making a scene.
