I also just rewatched and positively reappraised this. My gut tells me it wasn’t written for an interracial duo, but I think it does its best to merge those tricky politics into its more urgent interrogation of how bro codes enable corruption, which frankly feels prophetic.

A Westlake whose time has come (and also never left).

A function of a time when media was mass and December output was previewed. Worked for movies and books, at least — perhaps less so music.

I’m mixed positive of the small screen SHE’S GOTTA HAVE IT on Netflix, but I have probably watched the final dance number to this tune five to six times.

Have you written on this? Would be interested of course in our further thoughts.

Reading Wasson’s THE BIG GOODBYE and Towne’s professional relationship with Edward Taylor seems quite interesting — definitely recommended.

I once broke my windshield doing an impression of William H. Macy in Fargo

Proton is the recommendation I always get and am now investigating.

If you never seen REVANCHE, I would definitely watch it for this project.

Pretty sure Walmart sold the “Rope. Journalist. Tree.” shirt back in the day. But these things are usually the left hands not knowing what the right hands are doing, pun I guess somewhat intended.

There’s an old joke about an incantation-powered sex toy that culminates with an officer at a routine traffic stop saying, “Voodoo dildo, my ass.” Could be the plotline here?

I’ve heard of other people doing this for people that might not be getting SNAP money in November.

That’s been a diminishing returns bibliography for me, sadly. I was big on the first collection and novel.

Our pub trivia is always on Mondays, otherwise I think my moviegoing pal and I would be at these (or the Marcus equivalent) all the time.

Far from Pakula’s best, and a little mid for a Julia/Denzel pairing (both giving pure movie star), but you can smell the shoe leather as they gut it out to make sure their story is unimpeachably printworthy. Roberts’ third-act depression is a great choice; AJP even gets to cop CASABLANCA’s ending.

I just watched this for the first time, and despite knowing its reputation, was not prepared. The shot of Davis sliding her hands through the unmoored typewriter keys while the clackety-clack soundtrack persists was instantly one of my all-time favorite shots.
