My latest for @marketplace.org: Inside the rush to get solar projects into construction by next July 4th, when federal tax credits disappear.
Solar construction is in a race against time, as developers attempt to get things started before tax credits for the projects end next July. But when everyone has the same idea, competition can become a challenge.
Solar power projects are racing to completion as the end of tax credits looms next summer
Some states are helping them along, but projects in progress are all competing for the same scarce labor and resources.

One in six oil tankers worldwide is now part of the shadow fleet. They're old. They're underinsured (at best). And experts say they're a massive oil spill waiting to happen. For @planetmoney.bsky.social I spoke to a maritime pilot who's worked on these rickety tankers.
When Russia invaded Ukraine, western countries sanctioned Russian oil. But Russian oil exporters quickly sailed around them, building a shadow fleet of rickety oil tankers to move that sanctioned oil around the world.

A look inside the fast-growing "shadow fleet" of tanker ships that move oil around the world despite heavy sanctions. My latest for @marketplace.org
www.marketplace.org/story/2025/0...
How a growing "shadow fleet" poses risks to the economy — and the environment
Shadow fleets, groups of tanker ships used by sanctioned nations like Iran and Russia to move oil, comprise an estimated 17% of all international tankers, according to an Allianz report.

🌊🪨 As of this morning, deep-sea mining companies have asked Trump to greenlight mining both within federal waters and beyond national jurisdiction. An executive order could be coming soon: seabedspotlight.substack.com/p/a-plan-to-...
