I'm no economist, just a mere political scientist. Envisioning a common tariff area without a dispute resolution mechanism sounds terribly naive.

Interessant aus Sicht der internationalen Beziehungen: Lindner enthüllt in seinem Papier zur Wirtschaftswende sein Misstrauen ggü europäischen Partnern. Klares Denken des Nullsummenspiels. Angst vor relativem Machtverlust.
Ausschnitt eines FDP-Positionspapiers das Christian Lindner als Finanzminister am 1.11.2024 unter dem Titel "Wachstumswende Deutschland" veröffentlicht hat. Der Text liest wie folgt: "während die EU im Jahr 2050 klimaneutral werden will, zielt Deutschland weiterhin auf Klimaneutralität schon im Jahr 2045. Relativ ambitionierte nationale Klimaziele führen im europäischen Emissionshandel jedoch nicht zu einer schnelleren Erreichung europäischer Ziele, sondern lediglich zu einer Reduktion der notwendigen Anstrengungen anderer Mitgliedstaaten. Daher sollten die nationalen Ziele, wie die nationalen Zwischenziele, durch die europäischen Ziele ersetzt werden."

Did ZAF president #Ramaphosa sneak in a little dig at Putin in his final address at the BRICS summit? Obviously he doesn't mention Ukraine, but it can certainly be read to be about Ukraine as well

Looked into this a little further, because i honestly only hazily recalled it. It's astonishing how racism and xenophobia stand in the way of policy changes - the migration system as described here reads like a hellish trap.
Relevent text reads: "Wage theft is common, as is physcial violence. For many migrants who have overstayed months or years - including through the Covid-19 pandemic, when borders were closed - with spotty, poorly paid work, their exit fee becomes prohibitively high and they are left in limbo, earning too little to pay their ever-increasing fees, but unable to leave."

#vonderLeyen mentions a "new league of authoritarians" in her proposed political guidelines. This might be fine for a campaign speech, but it seems rather naive to think that only those "evil" states are out to get as much as they can.
